The consult

Find your thread.

Four questions: where your body complains, how your days are shaped, what you want back. Three of them hand back a short lesson on why. You end with a plan you can start today — three moves for your area, an add-on for what you are chasing, and a dose sized to the minutes you actually have.

Where does your body complain the loudest?

Inside the consult

Every question, and the lesson behind it.

The consult asks four things. Three hand back a short lesson on why that problem happens. All of it is here, if you would rather read than tap.

Where does your body complain the loudest?

Neck & shouldersThe hunch has a mechanism

Under mental load, the small motor units in your neck and shoulders switch on first and off last — they brace even when you aren't moving. Add hours of stillness and the fascia's glide layer thickens exactly where you're braced. Tension plus stillness, not weakness, is the usual story.

Lundberg 1999 · Stecco
Low backYour low back is wired to be loud

The big diamond of fascia across your low back is among the most nerve-dense tissues you own — and in chronic low back pain it glides about 20% less between its layers. Sitting parks it at one length for hours: exactly the stillness a gliding tissue hates.

HipsYou become the shape you hold

Fascia remodels along the lines of habitual load. Hold a 90-degree fold for most of your waking hours and the front-hip tissue slowly adapts to it — which is why standing tall can feel like an argument. It runs both ways: vary the shape, reclaim the range.

KneesKnees pay other joints' bills

Knees mostly pass load between hips and ankles — when those stiffen, the knees take the detour. And modern life almost never loads them through their full range. The range you don't use is the first range connective tissue gives up.

Feet & anklesYour foundation is spring-loaded

Each foot has 26 bones and a fascia that stores and returns energy with every step, like a leaf spring. Cushioned shoes do its job for it, and an unused spring stiffens — then complains loudly on the first long walk you ask of it.

Everywhere & nowhereStiff all over is a glide story

Between your fascial layers sits a lubricant, hyaluronan, that thins with movement and warmth and thickens with stillness — honey instead of water. Diffuse stiffness is usually this, not damage. Varied movement and warmth are what appear to shift it.

Your day, mostly?

In a chairSitting isn't the crime — the streak is

Tissue tolerates sitting fine in short runs; it's the unbroken hours that gum the glide and spike blood sugar. In a controlled trial, a five-minute walk every 30 minutes of sitting cut post-meal glucose spikes by 58%.

Duran 2023
On my feetStanding still is also monotony

A day on your feet loads the same tissue at the same angle for hours — load without variety. Your web doesn't need less standing; it needs the angles the day never gives you: folds, rotations, slow backward steps.

Schleip & Müller 2013
Physically hardLoad without glide is half a diet

Hard physical days give tissue plenty of force but little gentle, full-range movement — and post-exercise soreness appears to live substantially in fascia, not muscle. What's missing isn't more work. It's the other half: glide, warmth, sleep.

Gibson 2009
A real mixVariety is already medicine

Fascia lays its collagen along the lines you actually load, so a genuinely varied week builds a resilient, multi-directional web. Your gaps are the specific ranges even varied days skip: deep squats, overhead reach, backward walking.

Schleip & Müller 2013

What do you want back?

A body that stops complainingMuch 'unexplained' ache is fascial

Fascia is more pain-sensitive than muscle: irritate it and the pain is stronger, lasts longer, and radiates further — which is why so much ache shows nothing on a scan. The good news: everyday stiffness is usually sticky, not scarred, and sticky reverses.

Energy backEnergy responds to small doses

In chronically tired adults, six weeks of gentle exercise cut fatigue 65% and raised energy 20% — and gentle beat moderate intensity. The lever is brain chemistry, not fitness, so it starts paying before you're remotely 'in shape.'

Puetz 2008
A calmer headCalm is a trainable reflex

Your exhale is a brake pedal: slow breathing with a longer out-breath reliably raises the vagal signal that settles your heart. Five minutes a day of cyclic sighing beat mindfulness meditation for daily mood in a Stanford trial.

Balban 2023 · Laborde 2022
To move like a kid againSpringiness is a tissue property

That bouncy, easy quality kids have is elastic recoil — fascia storing and returning energy like a catapult. It's trainable at any age with light hops, skips, and springy heel work. The snap rebuilds over months, not sessions.

Minutes a day you’ll honestly give it?

The last question earns no lesson. It sets the dose, and the dose is the part most people get wrong.
