Wall sit workout for blood pressure
In trials of adults with high-normal or mildly raised blood pressure, four 2-minute wall sits three times a week lowered blood pressure within 4 to 12 weeks. Do it alongside walking or cycling, not instead of it. Breathe normally throughout: count out loud if it helps. If your blood pressure is 160/100 or higher and untreated, or you have heart disease, check with your GP first.

Tips
- Do it 3 days a week, with a rest day in between. The benefit builds over a few weeks and fades if you stop.
- Never hold your breath in the hold. If you feel dizzy, light-headed or unwell, stop and sit down.
- Handgrip option: squeeze a soft ball or handgrip for 2 minutes at about a third of your hardest squeeze, alternating hands, 4 times, 3 days a week. A grip device with a display makes the effort more exact.
- Keep walking or cycling on most days: aerobic exercise remains the first choice for high blood pressure.
The doses are suggested starting points, not a prescription. Choose a range you can control and stop for sharp or increasing pain, numbness or tingling. Get individual advice after an injury or surgery, or if you are pregnant or managing a health condition.
