Golf warm-up
Experts agree on the order: some easy aerobic exercise, golf mobility, then practice swings. The middle block is the warm-up that cut low back pain episodes in a trial of 45 teenage golfers, done twice through before every session; it hasn't been tested in adults. Warming up hasn't been shown to prevent injuries in adult golfers, but it does seem to help you hit better. Skip long static stretches before you play.

Tips
- Then take 5 to 10 easy swings with a short iron, building to full swings, and start range balls with wedges.
- Keep any static stretch short: in young golfers, a 20-minute stretching routine before hitting cut clubhead speed by about 4%.
- With osteoporosis or a past spinal fracture, keep every turn smooth and comfortable and leave out the jump.
- With back pain, nothing is banned: keep pain mild and settling, as our back pain guide says, and skip the jump while it's sore.
- Leave the course when you hear thunder: golf clubs and buggies can conduct lightning.
The doses are suggested starting points, not a prescription. Choose a range you can control and stop for sharp or increasing pain, numbness or tingling. Get individual advice after an injury or surgery, or if you are pregnant or managing a health condition.
