How to move
- From a forearm stand, you arch the spine, bend the knees and reach the feet toward the back of your head, chest pressing forward through the shoulders and gaze lifting toward the floor ahead. It is a free-balancing inversion and a deep backbend at the same time.
Practice and cautions
Brief 5 to 15 second shapes from forearm stand at a wall, a few attempts per session, fully warm.
A fall from this pose is a real fall, so learn it at a wall, ideally with a spotter. Skip it with glaucoma, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or neck, shoulder or low back problems, and bend through the whole spine rather than cranking the low back.
