Strength workout for boxers: legs, power, shoulders and grip
A punch starts in the legs. In trained boxers, lower-body strength and power, explosive upper-body strength and a fast turn of the trunk go with harder punches. This session trains those, plus the shoulders, wrists and grip that take thousands of punches. Do it twice a week, on days without hard sparring or bag sprints.

Tips
- Twice a week, on days without hard sparring or bag sprints. Do the power block first, while you're fresh, and stop strength sets 2 to 3 reps short of failure.
- Keep heavy leg work away from the day after hard sparring, while your muscles are still recovering (our suggestion).
- Sore knuckles or wrists: do push-ups on dumbbells or against a wall, and see our wrist pain guide.
- A shoulder that feels as if it might slip: stop that exercise and follow our shoulder dislocation guide.
- Never train or spar during an England Boxing medical restriction.
The doses are suggested starting points, not a prescription. Choose a range you can control and stop for sharp or increasing pain, numbness or tingling. Get individual advice after an injury or surgery, or if you are pregnant or managing a health condition.
