Resistance band workout B: rows, push-ups, split squats and hip hinges
Workout B of our resistance band workout plan, and a full band session on its own. It leans on what bands do well (rows, pulls and presses) and trains the legs one at a time, because band squats work the thighs less than weights do. You need bands with handles and a door anchor, or a long loop band and a post, and a sturdy chair or step. The plan's phases set the rounds: 2 in weeks 1 and 2, then 3.

Tips
- Check every band and anchor before you start, and keep your face out of the band's line: in one series of eye injuries, every band had slipped from its anchor. Glasses or sports goggles help.
- In weeks 1 and 2 of the plan, do 2 rounds and stop each set with 3 or 4 reps to spare. The plan's phases set the rounds after that.
- When a move reaches the top of its range, add tension: step further from the anchor, shorten the band, or use the next band or two bands together.
- If a move feels light enough for 20 or more reps, take its last set to within a rep of failure.
- Latex allergy: choose latex-free bands.
- Pregnant: from the end of the first trimester, swap the band glute bridge for the standing band hip extension, which keeps you off your back.
The doses are suggested starting points, not a prescription. Choose a range you can control and stop for sharp or increasing pain, numbness or tingling. Get individual advice after an injury or surgery, or if you are pregnant or managing a health condition.
