Gymnastics warm-up: wrists, shoulders, spine, hips and landings
Gymnastics puts several times your body weight through your wrists and asks a lot of the shoulders, spine and landings. This warm-up prepares each in turn. No gymnastics warm-up has been tested for preventing injuries, and during a growth spurt British Gymnastics advises keeping the flexibility you have rather than pushing for more.

Tips
- Never let anyone push you down into a split: the Whyte Review heard of coaches forcing gymnasts into splits with their body weight, against British Gymnastics' own policies.
- In a growth spurt, keep your flexibility rather than chasing more, and tell your coach about joint pain, back pain or tight muscles.
- Sharp wrist pain during the rocks or handstands: stop that part, and see a doctor if it's still painful the next day.
- After a fall with a suspected concussion, sit out at once: if in doubt, sit them out.
The doses are suggested starting points, not a prescription. Choose a range you can control and stop for sharp or increasing pain, numbness or tingling. Get individual advice after an injury or surgery, or if you are pregnant or managing a health condition.
