Yoga for skateboarders: a 25-minute class for ankles and one-leg balance, the riding stance, wrists in stages, hips and the back, after skating or on a rest day
A 25-minute class for after skating or a day you don't skate, once or twice a week. It works the ankles and calves for pushing and landing, builds one-leg balance, rehearses the riding stance and a soft landing shape, brings the wrists back to taking weight in stages, keeps the hips moving and the back strong, and ends with a short rest. It doesn't prevent falls or fractures: a helmet, wrist guards and pads, and learning to fall on soft ground, do the protecting. The structure is our own and untested.

Tips
- After skating or on a day you don't skate, once or twice a week. Before you skate, use the skateboarding warm-up, not this class.
- A helmet, wrist guards and pads still come first, and falling practice belongs on grass or a mat in the skate warm-up, never on a hard floor.
- After a broken wrist or a scaphoid fracture, leave out the wall push-ups and wrist rocks until your fracture team says you can take weight through your hands, then build up as our yoga for wrists class does.
- After a sprained ankle, do the sprained ankle guide's balance programme too, keep a hand near the wall in the one-leg block, and step, never jump, between poses.
- After a head knock, nothing head-down, and only the stage of your return you've been cleared for.
- No trial has tested this class, and no study has shown that yoga prevents skateboarding injuries.
The doses are suggested starting points, not a prescription. Choose a range you can control and stop for sharp or increasing pain, numbness or tingling. Get individual advice after an injury or surgery, or if you are pregnant or managing a health condition.
