How to move
- Lie on a bench with a dumbbell in each hand at chest level, feet planted on the floor. Press both weights up until your arms are straight above your chest, then lower them under control until your hands are about level with your torso.
Practice and cautions
3 to 4 sets of 6 to 12 reps, leaving about 2 reps in reserve.
The risky moments are getting in and out, not the press: start with the dumbbells on your knees and kick them back one at a time as you lie down. When a rep fails, lower the weights to your chest, tip them out to the sides and let them go; never fight a falling dumbbell over your face.
