20-minute full-body strength workout
Two supersets: a squat paired with a row, then a hip hinge paired with a push-up, each done twice through. Done twice a week, it gives every movement 4 hard sets, the minimum that reviews suggest for building muscle when time is short. You need a pair of dumbbells; a bench helps but isn't essential.

Tips
- Do it twice a week, with a day between, for 4 hard sets per movement a week. Three times a week builds more.
- In your first two weeks, stop every set with 3 or 4 reps to spare while you learn the moves.
- Add reps before weight: when every set reaches 12, move up to the next dumbbell and start again at 8.
- Keep breathing through each rep rather than holding your breath, especially if your blood pressure is high. Get a disc-related back problem checked before loading the hinge.
- Short of time, this beats skipping a session. With more time, one of our full plans builds more.
The doses are suggested starting points, not a prescription. Choose a range you can control and stop for sharp or increasing pain, numbness or tingling. Get individual advice after an injury or surgery, or if you are pregnant or managing a health condition.
