How to move
- Lying on your back, you lift the legs up and over your head until the toes reach the floor behind you, hips stacked over the shoulders, hands supporting the back or clasped on the floor. The weight belongs on the shoulders and upper arms, never on the neck.
Practice and cautions
Hold 30 to 60 seconds, once, with folded blankets under the shoulders so the neck stays off the floor.
The neck is loaded in deep flexion, so skip it with any neck problem, glaucoma, uncontrolled high blood pressure, significant osteoporosis, or in pregnancy. Never turn the head while you are in the pose.
