How to move
- Sit tall on the machine and drive in sequence: push with the legs first, then swing the body back from the hips, then draw the handle to the lower ribs. Reverse it on the way forward, arms away, body over, then knees bend. Keep the damper modest, around 3 to 5, and let the effort come from you rather than the fan setting.
Practice and cautions
3 rounds of 4 to 5 minutes at a pace you could just hold a conversation at, resting a minute between; add 1 minute harder intervals with equal rest once the stroke feels automatic.
The documented risk is low back trouble from long sessions rowed with a rounded back. Hinge from the hips, keep the spine long, and break up anything approaching half an hour, because fatigue is what drags rowers into flexion.
