How to move
- Take the same stance as the wall calf stretch, hands on the wall and one leg back with the foot pointing straight forwards, but keep the back knee bent and the heel pressed down. Sink the hips down and forwards until a deep, dull stretch appears low in the calf.
Practice and cautions
3 holds of 45 seconds per leg, most days.
Expect the feeling to sit lower and duller than the straight-knee version; a sharp pinch at the front of the ankle means you are jamming the joint, so ease the depth. Go gently after an Achilles injury and build range over weeks rather than forcing it.
