How to move
- Loop a band around your legs, just above the knees to start or at the ankles for more, and sit into a quarter squat. Step sideways, leading with one foot and following with the other, keeping tension in the band and your toes pointing forward the whole way.
Practice and cautions
2 to 3 sets of 10 to 15 steps in each direction, until the sides of the hips burn but form holds.
The common cheats are standing up tall, letting the toes turn out and rocking the torso side to side, all of which shift work away from the hip, so stay low and quiet. If it provokes sharp pain on the outside of the hip rather than a working burn, use a lighter band and get it assessed.
